Những khẳng định tuyệt đối có thể nghe ngây thơ hoặc thiếu lịch sự: This policy is useless. Người nói ở trình độ cao thường làm mềm những nhận định họ không thể chứng minh hoàn toàn. Cách này gọi là hedging (rào đón), và nó được mong đợi trong văn viết học thuật, email công việc và khi phản đối một cách lịch sự.
